The Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup qualification chances were further cut short last week after two disaster class games against South Africa and Benin Republic, edging out a draw against bafana bafana, and then going on to lose against Benin Republic three days later.
With the Euro 2024 squads submitted, BRUTAL decisions were made by managers across the continent as they revealed their squads for this year’s tournament. Some players that were cut were injured along the line during the season, and others didn’t qualify. Several big names were surprisingly missing, and so black sports live have decided to make an XI of the best players that will miss the Euro 2024:
Jack Grealish, James Maddison and Harry Maguire have been left out of England’s final squad for Euro 2024. Maguire misses out due to a calf injury that has kept him out of action since mid April, while his Manchester United teammate Luke Shaw makes the cut despite not having played since February due to a hamstring problem, but Grealish and Maddison were second to Eberechi Eze, Jarrod Bowen and Anthony Gordon in Gareth Southgate’s metric, which means they’ll have to watch from home.
A bullish Erik ten Hag hit back after Man Utd’s FA Cup final win against Man City as uncertainty continues to surround his future at the club. The Dutchman’s side beat Manchester City 2-1 at Wembley to win the FA Cup, goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo securing a second trophy in two seasons under Ten Hag, and also securing a place in the 2024/25 Europa League.
Manchester City have won a record breaking fourth Premier League title in a row after beating West Ham 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium on the final day of the season. Two spectacular goals from Premier League player of the season, Phil Foden, in the 79th second and the 18th minute put Manchester City on a two goal cushion and it seemed to be all but over after 20 minutes.
FIFTY ONE GAMES UNBEATEN RUN that saw Xabi Alonso and Bayer Leverkusen lift the Meisterschale after an unbeaten season, reach the DFB Pokal final and Europa League final was ended by Gasperini and Atalanta on Wednesday. The Italian side completely outclassed Leverkusen to clinch the Europa League that many thought could be going Leverkusen’s way. Atalanta BC had a plan to stop Leverkusen by playing a high pressing football with each man to one player, which made Leverkusen suffer because they weren’t able to play in their rhythm, but they had another plan on the other end of the pitch in Ademola Lookman. The Nigerian sensation stepped up his game and put up a fine display which had to be perfect and scored a hat trick to perfectly execute the whole Gasperini masterplan.
Liverpool sent departing manager Jürgen Klopp on his way with a 2-0 victory over 10 man Wolves as the Anfield faithful finally made an emotional farewell to their beloved boss after eight and half years. His 491st and final game was expected to be a sad one, but, while there were tears, the atmosphere was nothing but celebratory.
France striker Kylian Mbappe has announced that he will leave Paris Saint Germain at the end of the season. The 25 year old sensation announced the decision in a video released on his social media accounts. “I’ve always said that I would speak with you when the time comes,” Mbappe said. “It’s my last year at Paris St-Germain. I will not extend and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks.”
Bringing back memories of their unforgettable, incredible comeback against Manchester City in 2022, Real Madrid produced yet another impressive comeback against Bayern Munich at the Bernabeu. Joselu was Real Madrid’s hero as the former Stoke City striker’s stunning late double completed a 2-1 comeback win over Bayern Munich to reach the Champions League final.
Borussia Dortmund showed wonderful resilience over both legs against French champions Paris St-Germain to beat them at the Iduna Park and Parc De Princes 1-0 each to reach their first Champions League final since 2013. Dortmund initially held a 1-0 advantage following the first leg of the semifinal, and then doubled their lead when Mats Hummels was left unmarked five yards out to head in from Julian Brandt’s left wing corner.
