In one of the most impressive performances by a team in the second division of English football, Burnley have been promoted back to the Premier League with seven games left to play.
Vincent Kompany’s exceptional side edged past another team seeking promotion, Middlesbrough in a 2-1 victory on Friday night, which was the result that sealed their return to the English top flight with seven games to spare after Luton Town couldn’t get three points earlier that day. Connor Roberts’ goal from close range was enough to seal the victory and promotion for the league leaders, after Chuba Akpom canceled Ashley Barnes’ opener.
