Manchester City won the UEFA Super Cup for the first time in their history, after beating Sevilla 5-4 in a penalty shootout at the end of a thrilling 90 minutes between both sides.
The shootout was going so well for both teams, with all of the first nine converted, until defender Nemanja Gudelj struck his penalty against the crossbar to hand Manchester City the victory. This was a sense of deja vu for Man City, who lost to Arsenal in the same situation in England’s Community Shield just 10 days ago. It was the 15th trophy won by Manchester City under manager Pep Guardiola’s reign which started in 2016, averaging a trophy win per 27 games.
