England Under-21 win the Euros

The class of 1984 finally has some company as England Under 21 class of 2023 team win the European Championship for the first time in 39 years!!!  It was an entertaining and feisty game as two of the European heavyweights went head to head against each other, but the main highlight of the game was the last minute penalty save by James Trafford. The Man City goalkeeper who is set for a move to another club this summer, kept out Abel Ruiz’s low spot kick in the 99th minute after a lengthy VAR check. The 20-year-old then produced another brilliant stop on the follow up before his teammates mobbed him up.

Cesc Fabregas retires from football

Former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has decided to hang his boots and retire from professional football at the age of 36. The middle maestro hangs up his boots following a successful and colorful career which saw the Spaniard win two Premier League titles with Chelsea, a La Liga with Barcelona and an FA Cup with Arsenal. He also earned 110 caps for Spain in an international career which saw him win back-to-back European Championships and the World Cup in between those successes.

Manchester United are hoping to build on what was a very impressive debut season for manager Erik ten Hag which saw them finish third in the Premier League and claim their first silverware in over 6 years as they won the Carabao Cup. The Gunners have just completed two major signings in Kai Havertz and Declan Rice. Arsenal’s third bid of £105m for Declan Rice is the most expensive British transfer ever. Man City ended interest after having £90m+10m in addons bid rejected by West Ham. Ronaldo receives award for most international appearances, scores last minute winner

Cristiano Ronaldo has always relished a sense of occasion and struck in typical fashion, bagging a winner on the same night he was honoured with a plaque from Guinness World Records for his record breaking 200th international appearance.  The Portuguese international received a Guinness World Records certificate for having the most international caps for a male player. The closest to Ronaldo’s tally is Bader Al-Mutawa, who was capped by Kuwait on 196 occasions.

Spain beat Croatia to win the UEFA Nations League

The Spanish national team beat Croatia 5-4 on penalties to win their first ever Nations League trophy, and their first trophy win since Euro 2012. Dani Carvajal, who was substituted seven minutes into the extra time, converted the deciding penalty to win the trophy with an ice cold ‘panenka’. The game had ended goalless after extra time, giving head coach Luis de la Fuente, a trophy winning start to his tenure.

Manchester United’s future remains unclear, as the Glazers continue to delay a public announcement about their preferred takeover bidder. Sheikh Jassimi and Sir Jim Ratcliffe await the decision from the Raine Group, but things haven’t really been silent around the process. Despite reports indicating that fans should expect the successful party to become known this week, there hasn’t been any clarity on the whole situation. However, Sheikh Jassim’s camp is hopeful of sealing the deal after his improved fifth bid earlier this month, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who was previously considered the firm favourite, has the chance to respond to that offer with an upgraded approach of his own. Leicester appoint Manchester City coach, Enzo Maresca as head coach

Leicester City appointed Enzo Maresca as their new manager on Friday after the Italian left his role as assistant coach under Pep Guardiola at treble winners Manchester City.
Maresca signed a three-year deal with Leicester as he replaces Dean Smith who was appointed interim boss until the end of the season following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers. Smith, however, could not keep the 2015/16 Premier League champions in the top flight, as they finished 18th and were relegated to the second tier English Championship.

West Ham United have emerged champions of the 2023 Europa Conference League winning in dramatic fashion on Wednesday by beating Fiorentina 2-1 in the final match played in Prague, Czech Republic.
Jarrod Bowen’s last-minute goal helped the Hammers clinch what was their first piece of major silverware in 43 years. Bowen with great composure latched onto Lucas Paqueta’s pass and fired home a low finish to spark wild West Ham celebrations at the Fortuna Arena in Prague.
