Chelsea have shown further interest in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. The Blues’ new boss Enzo Maresca is keen on adding a proven Premier League goal scorer to his ranks, and after accessing their options, they’ve decided that the Newcastle target man [Isak] fits the bill. Newcastle might consider the deal even if they’re not willing to sell, as they have to sell a player to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Regulations [PSR] before July 1 and would be looking for close to £100m to consider selling their star striker.
The Magpies do not want to sell any of their star players this window but are aware of the delicate situation and could incur a points deduction if they don’t sell.
They’ve also been in discussions with Nottingham Forest, who are offering £35m + Vlachodimos for Newcastle prospect Elliott Anderson.
Chelsea’s first enquiry landed earlier this week and we understand that there has been further contact between the clubs on Friday.
Isak scored 25 goals last season for Newcastle despite missing two parts of the season with a recurring groin injury. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s Yankuba Minteh was close to a £35m move to Everton earlier this week but the deal fell through, however, Brighton and Hover Albion have hijacked the deal and would look to finalize it this week.
Chelsea will also step up negotiations with Leicester this weekend for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after the swap deal with Brighton involving Jakub Moder fell through after Enzo Maresca called the Leicester talisman. They made their approach on Thursday but are yet to make a formal offer.
Leicester, who gained promotion after winning the Championship, are at risk of losing another important figure at the club after Maresca, and are among the clubs under pressure to sell one or more players before Sunday to comply with PSR. The transfer window remains open and will close on August 30 at 11pm UK time in England and at 11.30pm in Scotland.
