Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior made the headlines as their monstrous performance helped Real Madrid cruise past surprise title challengers Girona 4-0 at the Bernabeu. The duo contributed to THREE of the goals scored in the game before Rodrygo Goes capped it off with a sublime finish as Carlo Ancelotti’s side marked their territory in the title race.
The win moves them FIVE points clear of Girona, who are on 56 points. Los Blancos have 61 points after 24 matches, with just four draws and one loss in 24 games.
Jude Bellingham scored twice before being substituted due to a suspected injury scare as Real Madrid ran out 4-0 winners against their title rivals. Just two points separated the sides at the top of La Liga ahead of the game, but it seemed like Girona were far behind due to the gulf in class at the Bernabéu. It took just six minutes for Madrid to stamp their authority on the match when Vinicius Junior sent a dazzling strike into the far right side of the visitors’ net. He then played Bellingham through minutes later, as the Englishman showed composure to beat the goalkeeper before passing it into the net as the hosts took a commanding two goal lead with just 36 minutes on the clock. Girona barely had a chance to fight back as they were overpowered to the extent that they had ZERO shot(s) on goal.
Bellingham’s second goal after another sublime Vinicius’ run was his final contribution as a rolled ankle forced his substitution. In his absence Madrid continued their onslaught as Vinicius won the ball before feeding Rodrygo for a fourth goal. It could have been five at the death, but Joselu saw his penalty cannon off the post.
Real Madrid stamped their authority on the La Liga title race and went five points clear at the summit with a breathtaking display against Girona. Catalan visitors Girona FC arrived in the Bernabéu full of confidence and secretly hoping that a title challenge could be on the cards. However, they came up against a Madrid side whose star names were on top form as Jude Bellingham struck twice.
With Real now five points clear and 11 above Barcelona – who have a match in hand . The title is firmly in their hands. Girona’s manager after the match said : “We have to be humble and know our reality. Everyone was saying we were coming to the Bernabeu to compete for the league. We just came here to try and play our best game and try to take them on directly, but we were not able to.
We had nothing to lose today, our image is of a club which is growing. It was not a comfortable game, but it should not damage us. We have to be humble, accept the rival was superior, and we deserved to lose today against a great team. There are only three or four teams in the world who can compete with them.”
