Manchester City goalkeeper, Ederson Moraes, has redefined and modernized the art of goalkeeping in recent years, contributing to the team’s attack and also helping in passage of plays, especially when the team is under pressure against tough opponents. Manager Pep Guardiola has described him as the ideal goalkeeper for the team, considering the way they play, which has helped him secure three consecutive golden gloves over the past three Premier League seasons.
However, there appears to be growing concern among City fans over whether he should be Guardiola’s first choice at all. With his poor shot stopping percentage being the fourth worst in the league this season, some are even pointing to arch rivals Manchester United and Liverpool to suggest a goalkeeper more like David de Gea or Alisson would give City a better chance of winning the Champions League. A fan, when asked about Ederson’s situation said “I have no doubts that he has helped us over the past couple of seasons with his beautiful style of play that has helped us win many titles. However, Ederson doesn’t give us anything defensively and he concedes literally every shot fired at him.” Ederson has conceded a goal against oppositions first shot on target in the last four games and to be frank, that really speaks a lot for a goalkeeper of his caliber. City fans are hoping for an improvement over the next few games so they’d be able to compete at the highest level in every competition they are in.
